In Memory:

Ty Hodanish:
Painter Extraordinaire and Guardian of the Mill

We're very sad to report that our very good friend Ty Hodanish passed away this weekend. For almost two decades, Ty had his studio in the Linseed Oil Mill, welcoming untold thousands to the Mill complex and training more than a thousand in his "Painting the Impressionist Landscapes" workshops.

With his studio right at the Mill's front entrance, Ty earned the honorary position of "Guardian of the Mill," a role he took seriously. At his passing, he was a member of the Board of Trustees of the Delaware River Mill Society, which oversees the Mill complex.

Ty's use of color and the way he saw how light entered our world was masterful and remarkable. His ability to make friends was unparalleled. No matter what he was painting or where he was, Ty would pull up a chair and demand to hear how you were doing. And he listened, remembered and so clearly cared.

Art was Ty's second career; the first half of his life was dedicated to public service including work in the NYC Mayor's office and several positions in Washington, DC. He capped his public tenure with positions as the Executive Director of the New Jersey Parole Board and the Director of the New Jersey Juvenile Delinquency Commission.

Ty leaves behind the love of his life and spouse Daniel Filoramo, his sister Nancy, nephews Seaton and Matthew, his dog Fredi and too many friends to count.

Ty's spouse Daniel has asked that donations in Ty’s memory be made to the Prallsville Mills c/o the Delaware River Mill Society, PO Box 298, Stockton, NJ 08559. Phone 609-397-3586; email
